Professor Chris Berney is a renowned international surgeon dedicated to the development and implementation of advanced laparoscopic procedures. He is driven by his patients’ unique needs, recovery, and overall quality of life and has performed more than 6,000 laparoscopic procedures.

Dr Yusuf Moollan

Dr Yusuf Moollan is a specialist Hernia and General Surgeon. He specialises in minimally invasive, laparoscopic surgery, complex hernia surgery, endoscopies (gastroscopies and colonoscopies) and outpatient varicose vein treatments. 

Dr Moollan became appointed as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2017 and pursued further training in the field of complex groin and abdominal wall hernia repairs and minimally invasive varicose vein treatments.

Dr Moollan specialises in multiple techniques in the repair of complex abdominal wall hernia including chemical relaxation with pre-operative botulinum A toxin (Botox) injections and the Progressive Preoperative Pneumoperitoenum (PPP) method.

Delivery of pre-operative injections of Botox into the lateral abdominal wall muscles, allows elongation of the muscular layers, which enables closure of wide hernia defects with a tension-free repair. The PPP method is designed to expand the intra-abdominal cavity, further enabling fascial closure. Dr Moollan also specialises in minimally invasive external oblique release techniques, reducing the need for the conventional extensive dissection for muscular release, thus significantly decreasing the risk of seroma formation.
Dr Moollan also has expertise in the most advanced technology in varicose vein treatments and offers his patients non-thermal vein closure with Venaseal glue, and ultrasound guided sclerotherapy. Unlike conventional treatment of varicose veins with vein ligation and stripping under general anaesthetic, Dr Moollan performs advanced practice-based treatment of varicose veins with ultrasound guidance under local anaesthetic, which leads to excellent results without the risks associated with conventional methods.This allows for enhanced recovery and rapid return to normal activities.

Oncoplastic Breast Surgery

Our surgeons do this by working alongside experienced plastic and reconstructive surgeons to provide immediate breast reconstruction where possible. Sydney Surgical Associates specialise in all breast conditions, including benign breast conditions and breast cancer.

Endocrine Surgery

Sydney Surgical Associates address all type of issues relating to the endocrine glands (thyroid and parathyroid) such as cancer, hyperparathyroidism, hyperthyroidism, large goiters or thyroid nodules, and multi-nodular goiters. This may mean a partial or total thyroidectomy (removal of the thyroid gland).

Endoscopy

Sydney Surgical Associates tend to all endoscopy procedures, including gastrocopy and colonoscopy, and a range of surgical procedures related to them.
